We pray that you will have a wonderful and healing time. Here are a few things you should know about this class:
1) You don’t need to be Picasso or Rembrandt for this class! And in fact, we’re not aiming to make you into Picasso or Rembrandt, either! This is not a regular art class. The goal is not “skill”, but rather getting to know God’s heart and experiencing His healing of our hearts. We will use art as a way of going through this journey together. In the process, of course, we will make some beautiful art that squeezes your heart when you see it. But it will squeeze your heart even more because you’ll know His love for you, and will discover your love for Him.
2) You don’t have to be “Christian”. However you should know that we going to hang out with Jesus here, so I hope you don’t mind. (More than that, I hope you get swept off your feet by His love!)
3) Just like we are not Picassos here, none of us is perfect. That is really important to know; we are all journeying. We’ve all got weaknesses, broken places, longings, desires, questions, confusion, stresses, and more. And although I’m your “teacher”, I am not perfect either. I’m journeying too, with you.
Because God is a Creator. He is the Great Artist! And He has made us (both men and women) in His image – we were created to be creators, just like Papa. All of creation was hurt and changed because of sin, but because of what Jesus Christ did for us, He makes our lives new:
“If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation:
the old has gone and the new has come.”
– 2 Corinthians 5:17
It usually takes us awhile to really realize that we are truly new in Him. Naturally we still feel a lot of problems and stresses. And most of us just don’t feel valuable. We can’t “see” that we are a new creation, so it’s hard to believe it. But the truth is that you and I are His masterpieces.
So we’re going to sit at the feet of the God the Great Artist, ask Him how He sees us, and paint what He puts in our hearts. We’re going to ask Him to direct our eyes and hold our hands as we pick up the paintbrush. We’re going to paint the new life He has given us. We’re going to plug into His creativity and understand the love that made Him create us in the first place. And we’re going to discover a creative reservoir in ourselves that we didn’t even know we had. We will meet Him through creativity – little creators and God the Big Artist.
Are you ready? Then pray and let’s go!
